Coffin Bay to Adelaide

Today I drove from Coffin Bay to Adelaide. Its only 704 km.   I left about 7:15am, and arrived at my hotel at 5:15pm. Easy peasy. Along the way I stopped for some silo art. This one is at Tumby Bay. A very nice bakery is at Tumby Bay too. This artwork was at Cowell. An option on a weekday is to put your car on a ferry at Cowell.  That way you can cross the Spencer Gulf relaxing on the ferry instead of driving up to Port Augusta and back down to Wallaroo.  That saves 4 hours driving (375km).  The ferry takes about 2hrs 45mins. The ferry timing on Sunday didn't suit me, so I just drove the whole way in the car.  Also, I wanted to get a second COVID test done, and they had a mobile unit setup at Port Augusta that operated on the Sunday.   The drive from Port Augusta to Adelaide takes you through huge farmlands.  I decided I'd give you another 360 degree video along the way.   A single photo snap just doesn't translate the immensity of ...

Elliston to Coffin Bay

I started the day at Elliston.  I just moseyed towards the edge of the country, and tried to take in the majestic morning scenery presented to me. Despite the beauty of the scene, some people just like standing at the edge of the land holding a big stick with a reel of nylon string connected to a dead fish and some lead.  They keep flicking it out into the breaking waves, and then reel the lead weight back in to the shore so they can do it all again. I suppose it's as interesting as hitting a little round white ball with a metal stick trying to get it into a little hole in the ground. I know I'm a pathetic city slicker.  I just can't imagine making a living by farming or growing animals for wool or for meat or something.  We're all a bit different, to coin a cliche. Ceduna to Elliston

 No need to rush things in my situation. I returned the hired golf clubs, and make sure that if I come back to complete the trip to the West, I wouldn't have to pay another $30 for the rental.   All good.  Nancy even offered to refund the $30 I'd already paid. It's a good time to reflect on how nice the people are on this trip.  It is actually unusual that people DON'T say hello to you as you pass them.  On the road, many wave to you as they pass in the opposite direction, but just in the township, they all nod.  I like it. I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Mogas Roadhouse - they make the best coffee in Ceduna.  I can vouch for that now.  And off I mosey down the highway from whence I came. This time I vow to stop off at anything that resembles a tourist spot- I have no idea where the good places to stop are, so I basically stop at the lot. A day in Ceduna

I finished up yesterday's blog quite angry. Not getting into WA is one thing, but finding out I can't get back to Victoria was a low blow. I have had some time to think about it.  I see the sense of it, but I can't help feel that the politicians/bureaucrats have come up with a rule that is easiest for them to implement. They basically want to stop us travelling.  It's just unfortunate that I was already travelling when they made the new rules.  So now I'm resolved to make the most of it.  I promise not to spout off at Dan. So I've got that apology out of the way - I finished up yesterday's blog telling you I'd stay in Ceduna and I'd describe my day for you. I started the day putting on the washing.
